New Beginnings at Element78: My Journey So Far

As one of the newest members of the team, I’m here to share a bit about myself, my passions, and the incredible opportunities I’ve had since joining this dynamic web development agency.

I’ve always had a creative streak, which led me to study Film & Media Production at Sheffield Hallam University, where I graduated with a 2:1. During my time at university, I developed a deep love for video editing and motion graphics, which remain two of my greatest passions to this day.

After graduating, I stepped into the energetic world of hospitality, and soon progressed into management roles for various restaurants, pubs, and hotels in Sheffield and, more recently, Leeds. Hospitality provided me with invaluable opportunities to develop my customer service skills, build strong working relationships, and react quickly to changes. I even got the chance to live in the heart of the stunning Peak District for a while!

Alongside this, I pursued freelance video editing projects, which allowed me to keep my creative skills sharp. While I enjoyed the challenges of hospitality, I was eager to transition into a career that combined my creativity with my growing interest in digital marketing and client relations. That’s where Element78 came in.

Element78’s graduate recruitment scheme caught my eye because of its focus on nurturing fresh talent and providing real opportunities for growth. Given I had no direct experience in the web development industry at the time I applied, it was a huge surprise that I was considered for the role. Despite this, the hiring team at Element78 clearly recognised that my relevant and transferable skills gained from hospitality, along with my creative flair and personal qualities aligned with the Account Manager vacancy.

From the moment I joined, it was clear that the company places a strong emphasis on investing in its team. The support and encouragement I’ve received have been invaluable in helping me develop both personally and professionally.

In just six months, I’ve gained hands-on experience in areas I had either only scratched the surface of, or not all. Some of the key skills I’ve developed include:

• Client Relations and Communication: Building strong relationships with clients and understanding their differing needs has been a cornerstone of my role.
• Account Management: Managing projects, timelines, and expectations has taught me the importance of organisation and attention to detail.
• Digital Marketing: From CMS training to using tools like SEMrush, I’ve expanded my knowledge of the digital marketing landscape.
• Creative Contributions: I’ve had the chance to flex my creative muscles by editing videos, creating brand assets, and conducting competitor analysis.

When I’m not at my desk, you’ll likely find me hiking in the Yorkshire Dales, at my local climbing wall, skiing in the Alps (or in my imagination the rest of the time!), or exploring new places. Music is another big passion of mine, and I’m always on the lookout for the next gig to attend. Staying active and creative outside of work helps me bring fresh energy and ideas to my role at Element78.

Element78 has already given me so many opportunities to grow, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes me.
